History of Bishop Vicente Msosa

Born in 1981, Bishop Vicente grew up in a devout Anglican family. In the year 2000, he fully surrendered his life to Jesus Christ. Before committing to full-time ministry, he served as an evangelist while working as a teacher. In 2009, he answered the call to serve the Lord, resigning from his teaching profession and pursuing theological studies.

Bishop Vicente is married to Anastancia, and together they have four children: Ebenezer, their firstborn son; Omegalda, their second child; Loice, the third; and Emmanuel, their youngest.

Following his calling in 2009, Bishop Vicente enrolled at the College of the Transfiguration in South Africa, where he pursued a Diploma in Theology. During his second year, he participated in an exchange program at Ripon College Cuddesdon in Oxford, UK. In 2013, he was ordained in the Diocese of Niassa, where he served as a rector before being appointed Director of Ministry in 2015. His leadership journey continued when he was elected the fourth Bishop of Niassa in 2016, and he was consecrated on February 25, 2017.

Through his church-planting efforts, Bishop Vicente led the Diocese of Niassa's expansion, resulting in the creation of the Diocese of Nampula in 2019. In 2021, two additional dioceses were formed from Niassa—the Diocese of Tete and the Diocese of Zambezia. Feeling called to serve in a new mission field, Bishop Vicente became the first Bishop of Zambezia, where he continues his ministry to this day. To God be the glory!

Educational Background Bishop Vicente's commitment to education is evident through his extensive academic achievements, including:

  • Certificate in Development Studies from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (Hope Africa program)

  • Diploma in Theology from the College of the Transfiguration

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University Pedagogic of Lichinga

  • Bachelor's Degree in Divinity from Lake Malawi Anglican University

  • Master's in Ministry from Minnesota Graduate School of Theology

  • Master's in Christian Arts from Wesley Biblical Seminary

He is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Mission, Leadership, and Development from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and nearing the completion of a Doctorate in Innovative Education from the Catholic University of Nampula.

Zambezia community Project

The Anglican Diocese of Zambezia has pioneered community healthcare initiatives, building on its experience as part of the Diocese of Niassa. Our Mission and Development team operates through a dedicated network of community health activists, workers, and volunteers who tirelessly address critical health and sanitation issues across the region. Working under challenging conditions, the team conducts door-to-door outreach, educating communities on cholera prevention, HIV/AIDS, malaria, good farming practices, and Umoja—a program focused on community cohesion and development.

Our health initiatives are known as ‘Together for Health’, a program that partners closely with government health departments to extend its reach and impact. Through this collaboration, we are able to train more workers and volunteers, ensuring widespread education and preventative measures that are vital for changing lives and improving health outcomes across Zambezia.

Since 2022, in the aftermath of devastating cyclones such as Idai and Freddy, which caused widespread destruction and loss of life, our team has taken a proactive role in educating communities about the importance of living in safe areas, providing counseling, and raising awareness on disaster preparedness.

Cholera outbreaks have tragically become a recurring issue following cyclones in Zambezia. The combination of climate emergencies, underinvestment in WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) education and infrastructure, and violent insurgencies in the north have led to thousands of cholera cases. Despite these challenges, our team of health activists and volunteers work day and night across all districts, continuously expanding their efforts to reach more communities and schools. By changing health attitudes, sharing knowledge, and preventing illness, we are transforming communities, one step at a time.

The Diocese of Zambezia is committed to serve in the communities where we serve with various Community development programs.
